Romania. Castles

Romania can be called the "Land of Castles". It just so happened historically or geographically that during its centuries-old history the country has experienced many wars. As a result, many fortresses and castles were built in Romania, many of which have survived to this day.

The variety of architectural styles only enhances the impression made by these "silent witnesses of bygone days." The most famous castles in Romania are Bran Castle (better known as "Count Dracula's Castle") and Peles Castle. Bran Castle is possibly one of the most popular castles in the world.

This is related to the chilling legend of Count Dracula, written by writer Bram Stoker. Count Dracula (the prototype of Vlad Tepes) appears in the book as a terrible creature that feeds on human blood. This story is not so far from the historical personality of Vlad Tepes himself.

Tepes himself, during his lifetime, was distinguished by particular cruelty, which there are many historical references to. Although it is worth mentioning that Vlad the Impaler himself never lived in the castle, but only stayed overnight, the appearance of the building, location and atmosphere all indicate that this particular castle is associated with the entire plot described by Bram Stoker. Every year, crowds of tourists visit the castle in the hope of experiencing this chilling atmosphere described in the novel. They are not disappointed.

Peles Castle. The castle is located near the city of Sinai, in a very picturesque place in the Carpathian Mountains. King Carol I of Romania personally chose this place as his summer residence. The castle is named after the river that flows nearby.

The architecture of the castle, which is made in the Neo-Renaissance style, fascinates. There are about 160 rooms in the castle itself, and each of them is unlike the previous one. The park ensemble of the castle is also noteworthy. The central statue of the ensemble depicts King Carol I. Numerous decorative details adorn the numerous staircases of the castle.

The garden is filled with sculptures of lions, dogs. Lots of fountains and urns. Going on an excursion to Peles Castle, please note that it is closed to the public in November. The variety of castles in Romania is of interest to tourists from all over the world. The flow of those wishing to learn the history and secrets of numerous castles does not stop throughout the year. You should also visit the castles of Romania, maybe it is you who will discover their gloomy secrets.
